The videos on this page are old, some very old. All were designed to illustrate and teach the basic moves in fencing, from the beginning salute, through the proper en garde, to the lunge, vairous attacks and parries. In part this shows how little has changed in fencing at the basic level.

The first video is a silent film from the 1920s, showing various actions with foils, epees and sabres as illustrated by the great French Olympic champions of the day. The second video, from the 1930s is by the great American fencing master, Julio Castello. It was designed to accompany his textbook and serve to instruct college and university fencing teams. The final three videos from the 1950s are tutorial videos by one of America's great coaches of our Olympic Fencing Teams, Giorgio Santelli.

The purpose of these videos is to show my students how the various basic fencing moves should look if precisely executed.
