Fencing

The modern Olympic sport of fencing is descended from the Duel of Honor and the practice men and women engaged in, to prepare for the day when they would have to defend themselves in single combat with a sword.

Olympic Fencing may be thought of as three different but similar sports or disciplines:  foil, épée, and sabre.

Fencing has been included in every Summer Games since the first of the Modern Olympics in 1896.
